Newcastle Upon Tyne Carling Academy

23 April 2008

Reviews

Wednesday 23rd April was the Newcastle Carling Academy’s turn to play host to folk big-band Bellowhead, and, as expected of these extravagant bunch of lovelies, it was another impressive night to be had.
The eleven-piece took to the stage after a pleasant opening set from Benji Kirkpatrick. The musical festivities thus began, with not only the usual rapturous songs and tunes, known by the majority of the audience, but also a fair few showcasing tracks from the band’s upcoming album.
The sheer enthusiasm of the musicians was clearly infectious, as the crowd united with their finest loony-dancing and singing. Those more familiar with Bellowhead’s music even waved yellow handkerchiefs high and proud during Jon Boden’s eccentric stylings on ‘Flash Company’.
All in all, the upbeat tunes, captivating songs and energy in the room left a fixated grin upon each audience member’s face as they jigged their way into the night.
Big thumbs up!
