Eliza Carthy discography

Reviews

I have owned my copy of Red for many years now and it still my favourite Eliza Carthy CD. I confess it was actually my husband’s CD, as he is the true folk fan in our house! However, once I heard this I was hooked! I really liked it because it was so different to other things I had listened to.

There are some very lively, toe-tapping tracks on the CD and some are quite heavy – one of the reasons I really love Eliza Carthy’s music. The songs are fantastic, especially Accordion Song and Stumbling On. Eliza has a wonderful voice and is great to listen to. My favourite thing about Red is that my four year old daughter loves it too. Since she was very little we have played a huge variety of music in our house, Eliza being a favourite, and especially Red. Our daughter loves dancing along to the jigs, and hops and skips around the room! Her favourites are The Widow’s Wedding and Mrs Capron’s Reel. It’s hard not to dance around with her!

We are hoping to take her and our younger daughter to a folk festival next year as I would love her to see Eliza playing live – she wouldn’t be able to stop herself dancing! My own favourite track is Red Rice. It’s so different, I’ve never heard anything else like it and never tire of listening to it. Definitely a recommended album.
