Born in Devon in 1977, Seth, along with brothers Sean and Sam, began playing music early on in life. He plays mainly fiddle, tenor guitar and viola.

Seth’s first exposure on the folk scene came in 1994 when he and his two brothers formed The Lakeman Brothers, releasing the album ’Three Piece Suite’. Shortly afterwards all three joined together with Kate Rusby and Kathryn Roberts to form the band Equation. The band went through a number of lineup changes during the 6 years Seth played with them, but in 2000 he left to pursue other work, including a solo career.

He spent some time working with Cara Dillon, her album ’Cara Dillon’ featured Seth on fiddle, guitar and vocals. Much of 2005 and 2006 was spent touring, both with his own band, and amongst others, the Levellers and Billy Bragg.

Seth’s first solo album, ’The Punch Bowl’ was released in 2002, followed 2 years later by ’Kitty Jay’ in 2004. 2006 brought a move to major record label Relentless, which brought Seth’s music to new ’non-folk’ audiences. In 2008, his fourth solo album ’Poor Man’s Heaven’ was released to critical acclaim.
