Well I managed to get in the second row right in the centre....and was glad I’d worn my platforms or else I’d of had no chance of seeing anything but the back of peoples heads. Almost mastered the art of dancing clapping and taking a photo at the same time.

Support act....nice to see he was properly labelled (in case he gets lost?) Liked the lullaby even if the other songs weren’t really my cup of tea and the heckler made me laugh.
"Where’s the rough area in Norwich?"
"You’re in it!"
I noted there seemed to be a suspiciously large amount smoke curling across the stage at some points.

Bellowhead opened with Jordan (not the model). Which got the gig off to a rip roaring start.

Had to erm..bob along to most of the songs because I can’t jump in platforms. Lots of energy coming across which was infectious. And the crowd absorbed that electric atmosphere and reflected it back.
In one particular song Benji seemed to be going for the long jump record and almost ended up in the crowd. And I think they just about got away with the Norfolk love story. There was even some banter with the audience. And some funny ’poses’. Overall had a wonderful time, hearing the tracks from Matachin live has brought them to life. Can’t wait till the next time I can see them perform.

Had booked tickets as soon as the date was announced (and was a tad surprised that the voice on the end of the phone at the Waterfront had never heard of the band and seemed unsurprised they had only sold a handful of tickets at that point. Well, it was the beginning of August!......)

Support act Sam Carter was a lovely find. Clear, bright, poignant and funny vocals and you could hear every word. Guitar playing on the Yellow Sign song was just extraordinary.

And, as I had predicted, Bellowhead did not disappoint! I had seen them at the Big Session earlier in the year and was very glad they did some of the old faves as well as stuff from Matachin (you never really know with an album tour.... ) I was a bit disappointed to be only person jumping up and down at the start but others eventually cottoned on........ Everything as full of energy as usual (and some particularly choice dance moves from the brass section) The two numbers not on any album/ep (the mad lassoing one and Benji’s nocturnal manuscript crisis one) MUST be recorded soon as they are clear crowd pleasers! ... Sound was ok on the whole although there were problems hearing the fiddles at times.

I had lost my voice by the end pretty much (and so pleased they did London Town as first encore) and would rate it 11 out of 10 no problem. More dates soon please!!!!!

Already submitted a review to the Properganda "blog", and enjoyed reading the two reviews already posted here, so what can I add ?
Sam Carter well worth seeing, my faves were Bones and the first number he played re the lose of a job/being made to feel worthless, very appropriate in the current climate.

Bellowhead did not disappoint, on stage for an hour 40 mins., small stage, surprised there were no injuries with the amount of dancing/jigs/movement around the stage. Also enjoy the "posing" with the brass, fiddles, quirky dance routines, etc.

Band in fine form, special praise must go to Brendan’s sax solos, Sam on the pipes, only complaint from where I was standing that Gideon and Pete were low in the mix, esp. Pete’s percussion.

To the set, as already said started with Jordan, crowd signing along, Frog’s Legs..., and then most of Matachin, which did work playing an unknown album, thou’ bought it the next day !! As already commented Paul made a risky comment about Fakenham Fair, and Kafoozalum, Whiskey is.., Cholera Camp, and The Flight of... will become favourites in the years to come.

My son missed Fire Marengo being in the set, self that there was no Flash Company, nor Prickle-eye Bush, thou’ Jon and John did play this Led. Zep. cover{!} back in Sep. when playing as a duo at the Arts Center.
