More Bellowhead gigs More Jim Moray gigs
An absolute cracker of a night - only my second ever experience of Bellowhead live, and possibly still one of the best. Bellowhead were supported by Chris TT and the Jim Moray Trio. The eagerly awaited gig was filmed for a DVD to be released in summer 2008.
Quite possibly one of the bounciest gigs I have ever to - my arms were aching from all the lassooing, my knees ached from the jumping, and we were singing all the way home on the train. I don’t think I need to explain the usual slightly crazy but ever-so-wonderful atmosphere if you’re reading this - all I can say is keep an eye out for that DVD come the summer!
As soon as Bellowhead hit the stage and broke into Prickle Eye Bush it was clear we were in for a special night. The songs were lifted several notches above their record versions by the sheer enthusiasm of the players, who were clearly having the time of their lives. This fed into the audience and before you knew it there were several thousand bright young things dancing like loons to what are essentially morris tunes. You don’t see that every day.
Frog’s Legs and Dragon’s Teeth revealed itself to be a peerless dance tune building itself into a breathtaking crescendo. Even Flash Company, which I found a little toothless on the record, sweeps you along on the shear force of it’s personality. This was my first taste of Bellowhead live and I think I’m hooked.
