Bellowhead

Their material is steeped in English folk traditions but the feel is exciting, intoxicating, slightly sinister and deeply funky. Their self-released demo, E.P. Onymous was put out in October 2004 to sell at gigs, but made the folk charts.

Their ranks swelled to eleven with the addition of Gideon Juckes on sousaphone to provide more bass to their sound. Their first studio album Burlesque was released in October 2006 to rave reviews. Since then they have released their second full-length album Matachin, as well as their live DVD.

Bellowhead were appointed Band in Residence at the Southbank Centre in London in 2007 and kicked off with "Bellowhead’s Christmas Revels." They have since hosted a "Dirty Weekend," a nautically-themed New Year bash and been involved in a version of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner with local school children.

In late 2007 Giles Lewin was replaced by Sam Sweeney of Kerfuffle.

The band has been nominated for numerous BBC Folk Awards, and has won Best Live Act three times, as well as Best Band. They have also gained recognition from a wide-range of critics and judges both in and beyond the folk world.

In 2009, Gideon Juckes moved to Tokyo and stopped being a full-time member. A few months followed where the band used various substitutes and in January 2010 Ed Neuhauser accepted an offer to join the band full time.

The end of March 2010 saw Bellowhead record their third album at Abbey Road studios in London.
