Following the success of the Darwin Project in 2010, eight artists from across the folk world are coming together to explore the songs and tunes of Cecil Sharp.
Jim Moray, Jackie Oates, Steve Knightley, Patsy Reid (Breabach), Andy Cutting, Kathryn Roberts, Caroline Herring and Leonard Podolak will gather in a house in Shropshire for 8 days in March. They will spend the time exploring Sharp’s works, and in particular looking at his Appalachian travels.
The only constraint the artists have to adhere to is that their creations have some ’relevance and resonance’ to Sharp.
The results will be premiered in Shrewsbury, and then performed over two days at Cecil Sharp House in London. Shrewsbury Folk Festival will host a final performance over the summer.
The March performances will also be professionally recorded and released as a CD over the summer.
You can catch the results of this exciting project at the following times and places:
24 March 2011 - Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury
26 & 27 March 2011 - Cecil Sharp House, London
August Bank Holiday Weekend 2011 - Shrewsbury Folk Festival
