Looking at the nominations for the BBC Folk Awards 2010, here are the nominees for best original song.

Steve Knightley - Arrogance, Ignorance & Greed (performed by Show of Hands)

The title track of their latest album, Arrogance, Ignorance and Greed sees Steve Knightley and Phil Beer joined by their latest band member, Miranda Sykes

Martin Simpson - Home Again

Written in tribute to his native Scunthorpe, Martin Simpson celebrates the town’s industrial heritage in this self-penned number.

Martin Simpson & Martin Taylor - One Day (performed by M. Simpson)

An acoustic ballad, One Day is based on a poem written by Martin Taylor and is a heart-breaking of the death of a child.

Frank Higgins - The Testimony of Patience Kershaw (performed by The Unthanks)

A cover of Frank Higgins’ song retelling 17 yr old pit girl Patience Kershaw’s testimony to the Government Commission of Enquiry into Child Labour in 1842.
