Posted by Mary Stokes on 20 December 2009

Traditional tracks are at the heart of the folk music scene, and here are the BBC Folk Awards 2010 nominations for the Best Traditional Track.

Mawkin: Causley - Cutty Wren

The Mawkin: Causley boys take on the story of Cutty Wren to create a dark and haunting traditional track.

Cara Dillon - Spencer the Rover

Cara Dillon is joined by brother-in-law Seth Lakeman, for this rootsy version of the traditional Yorkshire ballad.

Jackie Oates - The Isle of France

Jackie’s voice takes centre stage in this nigh-on acoustic version of the traditional tale of a shipwrecked convict who is freed by the compassion of a coastguard.

Martin Simpson - Sir Patrick Spens

Chronicling the final voyage of the song’s namesake Sir Patrick Spens, Martin Simpson brings the dark and haunting tale to life.
