No stranger to being nominated for the BBC Folk Awards Simpson is a giant of the folk scene. A master of the slide guitar he evokes the haunting sound of southern America with spellbinding power. He has over 35 years experience as a professional musician and a wealth of folk talent who he as worked with. Simpson deserves this nomination for his skill, passion, dedication and perseverance.Saul Rose
Most noted for his duets with Eliza McCarthy. Rose plays the Melodeon with a joyful, casual air. He has a natural, easygoing attitude to performing making him a winner with audiences. Now a permanent member of Jim Moreys band, Rose is an expert performer who has achieved masses in recent years, which makes him a strong contender for this award.John McCusker
Is a musician of extraordinary talents, he has already won this award in 2003 and his accomplishment since have seen him become not only a musician that transcends all genres but also a producer in his own right. He has worked with the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Paolo Nutini and Jools Holland. Not to mention created soundtracks for Billy Connelly and Dawn French to name a few. His ability to play any instrument and his continuous work aiding young talent in the folk scene makes him an incredibly strong influence in the folk world.John Kirkpatrick
A huge influence on the folk scene Kirkpatrick has been involved in everything from theatre, film, radio presenter, television and live and recorded performance. He is known as an accordion, dancer, singer and songwriter and is an expert at reworking traditional folk music, being a session musician and musical virtuoso. His expertise has allowed him to work in many theatre projects and touring companies as well as working with acoustic artists, bands and other accomplished artists.
