Darwin Song Project - Clock of the World video

Posted by Christopher Friedenthal on 19 May 2009

Unless you were lucky enough to be in Shrewsbury on March 19th 2009 where this song was recorded, this is likely to be the first you’ve heard of the results of the Darwin Song Project project. To my ears it’s sounding pretty darn good. Eight folk artists gathered for a week long songwriting residential in rural Shropshire to create songs on the subject the life and work of Charles Darwin. The results were performed at the concert you see here.

This track is Clock of the World written by Krista Detor and performed by her, Karine Polwart, Emily Smith and Rachael McShane. Also involved in the project were Chris Wood, Stu Hanna, Mark Erelli and Jez Lowe.

The concert was recorded for an upcoming CD release in July 2009, and the musicians will reconvene at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival in August to perform the 19 songs that were written during the week.

Sound mixed by Stu Hanna. Video recorded and edited by Microvideo, Shrewsbury.

I was lucky enough to be there and I can tell you it was a wonderful experience. Felt really privileged to have been there and can’t wait to see it all again at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival (tickets almost sold out for this day so be quick!)
