Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band - Carols and Capers 2010

Posted by Shelley Rainey 26 November 2010

Monday 29th November 2010 sees the start of this year’s “Carols and Capers” tour for Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.

The Carnival Band (which includes ex-Bellowhead member Giles Lewin) play 25 mediaeval and modern instruments between them, and also sing. You will hear many familiar carols, but not performed in a familiar way. Many of the carols become quite danceable, in sharp contrast to what some of us may be used to in carol services. Material written by Maddy and the other band members is also included.

Together they have recorded eight albums, including five of Christmas themed music. The latest release is a collection of Vaughan Williams Carols, Songs and Hymns.

There is usually an opportunity for younger (and often less young) members of the audience to join in one of the carols playing jingly percussion instruments. A Carnival Band gig is a great night out for all the family.
