Norma Waterson Benefit Events

Posted by Eleanor White 26 February 2011

As many of you will be aware, Norma Waterson has been seriously ill in intensive care for the last three months. Thankfully she is now on the long road to recovery, but this stay in hospital has not only meant she has been unable to work but since her husband Martin Carthy has been at her bedside the whole time, he’s been unable to play the gigs which would normally have been providing for them.

For this reason Martin has also been unable to take part in the latest Imagined Village tour which finishes at London’s Cecil Sharp House on Tuesday 1st March. It has been decided this show will now be a benefit concert for Norma Waterson, to try and alleviate some of the financial burden her illness has landed the couple with.

For this tour, the regular Imagined Village lineup (Eliza Carthy, Chris Wood, Simon Emmerson, Johnny Kalsi, Ali Friend, Andy Gangadeen, Simon Richmond, Sheema Mukherjee, Barney Morse-Brown) is joined by new fulltime member Jackie Oates to perform tracks from their two acclaimed albums ’The Imagined Village’ and ’Empire & Love’.

There are a number of other benefit events happening. For further details please see: http://www.mustrad.org.uk/norma.htm .
