Equation

Equation were a folk supergroup with an ever changing lineup, bringing several of today’s stars into the limelight from the late 1990s. Equation initially comprised Sean Lakeman (guitar) , Sam & Seth Lakeman (violins) with Kathryn Roberts & Kate Rusby (vocals). Formed in 1994, the band released their début single on the compilation, "Evolving Tradition" and an EP in 1995. Their first full-length album, "Return to Me", was recorded soon after the 1995 exit of Kate Rusby and her replacement by Cara Dillon but was not appreciated by Warner who shelved it until 2003. As a result, Cara Dillon & Sam Lakeman moved on to form a successful duo.

In 1998, Hazy Daze was released by the new look Equation.

After ’The Lucky Few’ album release in 2000, Seth Lakeman departed the band, since to move on to great things. Their final album was ’First name terms’ in 2002. Equation continued touring until early 2006 before the band members’ separate careers took over. Their legacy is the continued success of the artists: the popular ’Sean Lakeman and Kathryn Roberts’ , the Seth Lakeman band, Cara Dillon and Kate Rusby.
