Jackie Oates

A dual winner in the 2009 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Jackie has regularly caught the eye of critics and judging panels alike. In 2003 she was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards and in 2008, following the release of her 2nd solo album, she was nominated for the Horizon Award - an award she won in 2009, along with Best Traditional Track for ’Lark in the Morning.’

Her latest album, Hyperboreans, has also been nominated for Best Album in the 2010 Folk Awards, with ’The Isle of France’ nominated for Best Traditional Track. Jackie has also received substantial radio airplay on multiple stations for her cover of the Sugarcubes track ’Birthday.’

Hyperboreans was produced by her brother, Jim Moray. Both have guested on each other’s solo albums.

Alongside her solo work, Jackie worked with Rachel Unthank & the Winterset, contributing both in the studio and on tour for the four years between 2003 and 2007.

Jackie currently performs alongside fellow Devonians Steve Turner & Andy Clarke as part of the folk trio Wistman’s Wood. She also sings with the dance show, Morris Offspring, along with Saul Rose and James Delarre.
