Ruth Notman

Ruth Notman is a young singer and songwriter from Nottingham. She started out on the live circuit at just 13 years old, performing at folk clubs and venues in and around Nottingham and Derby and soon began securing slots at leading Festivals. read more...

Ruth was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards 2007. Shortly afterwards she signed a record deal with Mrs Casey Records. She spent the next year writing songs, gigging around the country at festivals and folk clubs , as well as recording her debut album, Threads - an album which saw her collaborating with the likes of Hannah Edmonds, Saul Rose (Waterson:Carthy, Whapweasel) Roger Wilson (Wood:Wilson:Carthy), and Bella Hardy.

Threads was released in November 2007 and created quite a stir, receiving great reviews including 4 Star reviews in The Guardian and Mojo Magazine. Her second album ’The Life of Lily’ appeared in October 2009, featuring a blend of traditional material, self-penned songs and well chosen covers.

Ruth was one of eight artists in the ’All Along The Wall’ project in 2009/2010, inspired by life around Hadrian’s Wall, both ancient and modern.
