A founding member of Faustus, 2009 saw Saul replace the melodeon player, Nick Cooke, as part of Jim Moray’s band, also featuring on Jim’s latest album, ’In Modern History’. He also continues to perform with former Kings of Calicutt member, Maclaine Colston as a folk duo, releasing their debut album ’Sand and Soil’ in 2009. This then earnt them a nomination for Best Album, Best Traditional Song and Best Duo in the 2010 Spiral Awards.
Saul was also nominated for Musician of the Year in the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards but missed out to fellow squeeze-box player.
In addition to playing with the Celidh bands Random, and Whapweasel, Saul also performs with Ruth Notman, featuring on her latest album ’Life of Lily’, with Dan Plews in the duo DanSaul, and with John Ripper and Laurel Swift, with whom he sings out the year in ’Life in the Year.’
2010 saw Saul resign from Waterson:Carthy, although he continues to work with Eliza Carthy both as part of the folk duo, Eliza Carthy and Saul Rose, and as an occasional part of Eliza’s band.
In 2009, Saul, along with fellow Faustus member Paul Sartin, featured on the soundtrack for the film Morris: A life with Bells On. Saul also featured on Jackie Oates’ album ’Hyperboreans’
In 2008 he also appeared as a ’Bellow dep’ for the Bellowhead April tour.
He received the English Folk Dance & Song Society 75th Anniversary Award (London) in 2007.
