Nic Jones Sam Carter discuss the guitar

Posted by Christopher Friedenthal 15 January 2013

In the second of our In the Footsteps series of interviews Sam Carter interviews Nic Jones.

In part two of our interview, Nic & Sam discuss topics of special interest to guitar players. Nic talks about his frustrations with his own playing, both before his serious car accident in 1982 and now. Also discussed are tunings, percussive techniques & the tension between wanting to play music and having to earn money.

Nic Jones is a towering figure of British Folk Revival and has been a major influence on the folk scene since the early 1970s. Sam Carter has been described by Jon Boden as "The finest English-style finger-picking guitarist of his generation" and won Best Newcomer at the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Recorded in Devon on 8 August 2012. Many thanks to Julia & Nic Jones for hosting the interview.
