The Cecil Sharp Project working on material at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival song house

Posted by Christopher Friedenthal on 02 August 2011

In a joint venue between the Shrewsbury Folk Festival and EFDSS, eight artists gathered together in Shropshire for a week in March 2011 to write works with ’resonance and relevance’ to Cecil Sharp, and particularly his Appalachian song-collecting travels of 1915-18.

Bright Young Folk caught up with Steve Knightley, Jackie Oates, Andy Cutting, Caroline Herring, Jim Moray, Patsy Reid, Leonard Podolak & Kathryn Roberts as they worked on the material at the song house.

After a brace of successful concerts in Shrewsbury and at Cecil Sharp House in London, which were recorded for a CD, they are due to play the following gigs:

26-29 August 2011 - Shrewsbury Folk Festival
22 January 2012 - Bristol St Georges
23 January 2012 - Buxton Opera House
23 January 2012 - Derby Theatre
24 January 2012 - Glasgow, Celtic Connections
25 January 2012 - Burnley Mechanics
26 January 2012 - London, Cecil Sharp House
