Consisting of Toby Starks, Sophy Blundel, Callum Pope, Pete Wheeler, Ben Insall, Jon Fuller, and Jonny Starks, Wheeler Street are a young 7-piece band based in Maidstone, Kent (though their backgrounds are somewhat more diverse with individual member’s original hometowns ranging from Newcastle to Australia). read more...

The group are essentially a bunch of friends who came together in early 2007, having previously played in other bands, and their name comes from the street which is the location of the pub at which they played their first gig.

Their first EP “Complaints and Privileges” was recorded late 2007, and released in Spring 2008. This was followed by a busy period, building up their reputation on the festival circuit, before releasing their debut album “Roodumdah“ in February 2009.

Their MySpace page describes them as folk rock as ’while not really accurate it avoids the use of the word “fusion”’. Certainly their listed influences are a fair old mix, going from the usual suspects -Bellowhead, Spiers & Boden, Fairport, the Watersons, Nick Drake - through to George Formby.
