Born and brought up in Devon and the youngest of three brothers, Seth Lakeman, began playing music at an early age - first with his brothers Sean and Sam as part of the imaginatively titles 3-piece, The Lakeman Brothers, and later with Kate Rusby, Kathryn Roberts and Cara Dillon in the folk-supergroup, Equation.

Following the disbandment of Equation, Seth released his first solo album, The Punch Bowl, in 2002 on his own record label i-Scream. But it wasn’t until his second solo album, Kitty Jay, was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005 that he reached the mainstream consciousness. And in 2006 he signed with the major label, Relentless Records.
In 2007 Seth was named BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards Singer of the Year and awarded Best Album for his third solo album, Freedom Fields.
2008 saw the release of his most successful album to-date - Poor Man’s Heaven, which entered the charts at number eight.
Always known for his live performances, Seth was nominated for Best Live Act in the 2009 BBC Radio Folk Awards, but lost out to the Demon Barbers. Nonetheless, his first live release soon followed in December of the same year in the form of a DVD concert, recorded at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall in May 2009.
2010 sees the release of his fifth solo album ’Hearts & Minds.’
Famed for his distinctive violin playing, Seth also plays the viola, banjo and tenor guitar.
